Thriller, Fantasy. duration: 110 M. release Year: 2019. Average ratings: 8,1 of 10. Yu Yang. Creator: Yu Yang, Yunyun Wei. Wow♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ best animation movie ever. I was skeptical when my colleague said Nezha was good but I did watch it anyway to give him a benefit of doubt. I was so glad I watched it! This is the best animation I've watched so far. The various themes like a parent's undying love for their child, the loyalty of friendship and being master of your own fate were so touching that I actually teared up during certain parts of the animation. Truly an amazing animation.

I am first. Hahha ~是古装啊~说穿的土~ 哈哈哈. 配音實在太好聽了!. Section 1 UNKNOT Before Dawn (Part 1) Your party has successfully leyshifted into a forest on the outskirts of Salem. Mashu notes that you have arrived as planned, but it is already dark out. You: Is everyone alright? Robin Hood: Well, what now? There’s some odd discomfort here. I was prepared for complete darkness within The Mist but somehow, it’s still rather bright out. Mashu: As expected of Robin-san, having good night vision. I can hardly……Please take care of the surrounding surveillance. Robin Hood: You can count on me. After this we’ll check the time differences using the stars. —oh, looks like we’ve found Suspicious Person No. 1? This guy is definitely the rumored witch. Having such a depressing face. A male witch. Sanson: ……It feels as if you are talking about me. You of all people should be careful of being attacked and mistaken for a night burglar. Mata Hari tells the two to stop their banter, and reminds them to at least act their roles. There is the possibility that their conversations could give them away after all. Robin agrees and suddenly gives out a cry. Nezha: ……………… Robin Hood: Ah-what a shock. You are…the new face, Nezha Taizi huh. I thought you were a wax doll since you were standing upright and making no movement. Nezha: A doll is one without mind. If thou art without distress, and not any different from a puppet, Is thou art a doll? Robin Hood: This one’s severe, no, it’s natural in response to being called a doll huh. My bad, ignore what I said earlier. You confirm with Mashu if everyone is present. She remarks that her eyes are getting more attuned to the dark and tells you to wait as she looks around. She notices a silhouette of a figure nearby and confirms if its Medea, asking her not to stray away as it would be dangerous. Medea: I know. Leyshift huh……A fusion between Magecraft and Science. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this sensation for all eternity. Mashu looks puzzled, but confirms that all 7 people including yourself are present. She suggests to start moving as soon as you’ve confirmed the equipment. You: Alright. Let’s head towards the village center. Robin Hood: But, having this many people walk on foot huh. Miss Da Vinci didn’t prepare well. If we had something like a covered wagon, this would be just a little easier. Sanson: You sure chat a lot. We only brought the minimum number of tools. We’ll have to make do with that somehow. In the first place, leyshift only allows you to bring the minimum, most important things. The rest will have to be procured on site. Robin Hood: Yeah yeah. I get that we’re actors with few baggage. Well we have the privilege of Shakespeare’s selection. Ah- speaking of which we haven’t decided on a name for our troupe. What shall we do, Master? Mata Hari: I’m also interested in that. We should decide in advance. You: ……in that case, “The Guda Troupe”. Robin Hood: Ha, haha! The Guda Troupe eh. That’s nice. Sanson questions Robin on his earlier laughter, and remarks that the name isn’t that bad. He finds Robin’s attitude rather rude. Robin scoffs at Sanson for being unable to understand a conversation abundant in wit, calling him stiff in the head. Robin Hood: —But then. Saying something like “It’s not bad”, aren’t you giving your view as if from a higher position? Sanson: That……that wasn’t my intention but, certainly…… You assure Sanson that it’s not the case, and you understand his intentions. He apologizes dejectedly for having you to express concern. Mashu whispers to you, wondering if Robin and Sanson have bad affinity with each other. You feel it’s probably because the two of them are the non-serious and serious reps respectively. Robin Hood: Well that’s fine. The prep has been done but, we haven’t decided if we’re really doing a play. If possible, I’d like to avoid presenting those rags. Mata Hari: Don’t worry. Dance is my specialty. Plus, we have two cute stars as well. Right? Nezha: ……? Me? Mashu: N-Nezha-san is in the first place, an important character in the classical Chinese opera of “Journey to the West” but…… M-Me as well? Mata Hari excitedly says yes, and mentions that if necessary, you will also have to stand on stage as well. You: Leave it to me. I won’t let you take the applause all for yourself. Mashu: S-senpai! Nezha: If it is Master’s desire, I will try. Battle, Struggle, Slaughter. Robin Hood: There’s no slaughter! This is a play, so don’t go firing at the audience or on stage! Also, just to confirm with this guy…… Our attire, well, we can somehow coerce the audience. Butー Isn’t it pretty bad if they notice we have an Asian loitering around? Mashu assures that it’ll be fine. There is your case as well, and Mashu has researched through historical literature. The 17th-Century is the end of The Age of Discovery, and development has shifted towards this new continent. At the same time, due to the East India Company, relations with Asia had gotten more intimate. Imports from all over Asia were also increasing, centered around goods such as Indian silk or Chinese porcelain. Salem was a colony for the British, and eventually became a port city as trade heightened. Even if an Asian is a rare sight, Mashu believes that the locals would not be alarmed to an abnormal extent. Robin remarks that tea being added as one the ‘Three Great Desires’ is because of the British Empire. Mata Hari: ……but even so, we must be prepared that there may be some form of prejudice regardless. Sanson agrees, and reminds you that this Salem may not necessarily be tied to the actual cultural backdrop of the 17th-Century. Medea suddenly asks about the status of contacting Chaldea. Mashu looks startled, as Medea was supposed to have received an explanation from Da Vinci prior to the mission. But Mashu explains anyway, as she was present as a helper to wake you up if you accidentally fell asleep. Medea: ……Yes, of course. This is just for confirmation now that we are here. It’s an important matter isn’t it. You: We can no longer return to Chaldea…… Medea: Wait……you’re joking right? Stop it. Being stuck forever in this place? Mashu: It’s a joke. Sigh……Senpai. I’m holding onto a special equipment. Setting it up will take some time. Communications with Chaldea will come afterwards. Mata Hari asks if anyone can use the communications device, to which Mashu confirms that only you can. The singularity you are in is blocking any magical means of communication but, the device can activate through your command seals. However, this method is also utilizing a ‘side effect’ from the disarray in the Near-Future Observation Lens ‘SHEBA’, and is very likely only to be used for just this time’s leyshift. She assures that it is also not separated by the time difference, as it was successfully brought along. Medea: ……Is that so. It’s been thought out I see. Mashu asks if Medea has an urgent matter to report, but Medea just remarks that it was merely curiosity. Robin notices light from nearby, emitted from a kindled fire. Mata Hari wonders if the Salem village center is there, but Robin hasn’t spotted any houses or plantations around. There are quite a few people by the light, and Robin advises on moving closer while watching the situation. A blonde girl in a dark dress appears by a fire.??? : Is everyone holding a white ash branch? This is a magic stick! Open the door! Thrice to the land, Thrice to the invisible door! Rat a tat tap! The door will lead to the outside world! And then…… The Holy Spirit will appear before us, and tell us a divine message! Girl: What kind of message? Abby???? : That would be the future you dream of, the person you are longing forー And then, and then……somewhere that is not here……to some far, faraway place that we don’t know…… The Holy Spirit whispers for your chance to grant your true wish…… The young girls begin reciting their wishes. One wants a dress whiter than snow. Another wants brunette hair like the dampened feathers of a crow. Another girl wants to find out who her marriage partner is. The girls squeal in excitement, and the girl in the dark dress instructs them to throw their branches into the flame as they make their wishes.??? : Tituba’s song…… Shall we sing the song of incantation? The scene pans back to your party, which has been watching from a distance. Robin asks what the girls are doing in their frenzy, noting that they appear to be from the village. Mata Hari finds their dance endearing, but Sanson is worried that it might be a trap, or a magical ritual. Medea stares intently at the scene, and you ask her if she can feel any mana from them. Medea: No. It’s just…… This……this is bad. Very bad. Mashu: ……is something the matter? Nezha: In fact the reverse. Nothing can be felt. Ever since we came. Medea: My magical perception has been immensely dulled. To be more conclusive…… Robin, Sanson. And Mata Hari as well. Can any of you turn into spirit form? Sanson tries but realizes he is unable to change. Mashu: Could it be……they have been incarnated!? Since when did they cease to become Servants……!? Robin corrects her, saying that rather than an incarnation, the feeling is more of being forced into a temporary flesh vessel. He confirms that this is probably that remaining sense of discomfort he felt after the leyshift. It would be hard to manage with this body. Suddenly Sanson notices someone nearby. A white-haired girl appears, and Robin immediately raises his bow at her. Sanson notices that she is a child, and beckons Robin to lower his weapon. Robin Hood: (……We’ve just arrived and I’ve let my guard down……that conversation earlier, if she heard itー) Good evening, young lady. What are you doing around here???? : ……………outsider. Mashu turns towards you for instruction. You: Are you friends with those girls over there???? : ……………………friends……? I don’t have……that kind of thing…… Sanson: Allo, sorry for scaring you. We’ve made you see such an embarrassing scene. We’re not anyone suspiciousー??? : ……a……uu……that, accent……French……soldier? Fugitive……? I have to e-escape…… The white-haired girl runs off into the shadows of the trees. Mashu and Sanson are startled but Mata Hari directs their attention towards the group of young girls you were observing earlier. Something is amiss. At the fire, wild beasts have surrounded the girls. The girl in the black dress tells everyone to huddle close, otherwise they’ll be targeted. She is shocked, having not expected the beasts to appear this close to the village. Girl: Let’s escape, Abby! Quickly!??? : W-wait! We have to get the bonfire……! Or else! A girl screams and separates from the group. The girl in the black dress tells her to come back but, a beast has started to give chase. An arrow suddenly strikes the beast and it cries out in pain. The girl in the black dress is startled. Robin Hood: There we go. The beasts of the new world are wild eh.??? : ……w-who are you? Robin Hood: Some dumb guy who didn’t realize that he was surrounded by this many beasts, young lady. None of them look like they want to be tonight’s main dish though. That side looks like they are really hungry. Nezha: Demonic presence……These are indeed beasts that have strayed from the animal realm. Robin Hood: Master……oops, Leader! It’s fine if we take them out here right? Mata Hari: Leader, before that, those girls— You: Mata Hari and Mashu will evacuate the girls! Mashu: Yes, senpa-leader! Mata Hari: The village is in that direction right? Come let’s go! You defeat the gray wolves. Robin moves on first and leaves the rest of the clean-up to Sanson and Nezha. Sanson: ………………However this is……It would be fine if it were just those beasts. Nezha: Our combat power, Strength has clearly halved……? Sanson: Yes. This false incarnation’s impact is quite severe. Fragile……it’s as if we have the body of a human. I hope we aren’t forced into a strenuous battle in future…… Nezha: This is indeed difficult! But your worry is not needed Sanson. Abandoned by the will of Heaven, On barren land is the very providence of the Buddha. Sanson: ……That’s reassuring, Nezha. What about your personal experience, Medea. ……No, you have been quietly watching the battle? Medea has a difficult look on her face. She mutters something about any impact being just limited to the earlier battle. Sanson: What’s the matter, Medea. Could it be, you’re dissatisfied with the fact that we defeated the enemies first……? Medea: ……Possibly, you might have overdone it. We were watched. While we were battling. By that albino girl from before. Sanson: ……mu. That was……definitely bad. Nezha: Silencing, Required? Sanson: Please stop that dangerous manner of speaking, Nezha. It’s just, I’m worried that she might be assaulted by other beasts. Just to be sure, I’ll take a look around. Medea: Alright. I’ll inspect the beast here. You rejoin Mashu and Mata Hari with Robin. The girl in the black dress thanks you for your help earlier, and tells her friends that you are their savior. Robin informs you that Sanson, Nezha, and Medea have begun to put out the kindled fire and will be reconvene shortly. The girl in the black dress suddenly starts to tremble, and Mashu moves over to comfort her.??? : Now that everything’s alright, suddenly, my legs just started to shake…… You introduce yourself, and ask the girl for her name.??? : Guda……san. Yes. I am Abigail. I live in Salem. All of you are……? You don’t look like ship people, or merchants at all……This village rarely has pilgrims or travelers……Plus, you have mysterious outfits. Mashu: We are part of the Guda Troupe. A travelling theatre. As indicated by the name, this is our Leader. He is still young though. We got lost on our way to Salem, and wandered into the forests.??? : Theatre……? Wa-waa……! If so, all of you deliberately came to Boston? How wonderful! This is my first time with real theatre performers! Everyone will be so happy! You: Just wondering, what day is it today, Abigail? Abigail: Please call me ‘Abby’, Mr. Leader. Today’s date……? The date has already changed so……its 21st April. Yesterday was the Sabbath. Western Calendar? Yes, um……it’s 1692. Mashu is shocked that you’ve leyshifted into that year. A voice belonging to a man suddenly calls out to Abigail, asking who is she talking to. Abigail: Uncle. Robin and Mata Hari turn silent as they notice the man.??? : Gathering the children, sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night, what were you doing in the forest—I will ask that later. Abigail: Yes……Uncle, these people are-??? : Hoh, a travelling troupe. I heard from the other girls. You saved them from being attacked by beasts in the forest. Mister Guda, I see you are the Leader. Please let me express my thanks. Getting lodging at Salem at this time is difficult, that said, I can’t push you into the inns of the ruffians by the wharf. Would it be alright if you lodged at my house? You accept the man’s offer, and Abigail is elated. However, he tells her off sternly for getting too excited, and having gotten her friends into danger. Abigail is to immediately head to her room once they get home, and is grounded from having breakfast and lunch. He also raises that she is not to speak with the guests until he gives his approval. Abigail looks downward dejectedly, and agrees to do as the man says. The man turns back to you and apologizes for the late introduction. He is a scholar, and is presently taking care of his late younger sister’s daughter, Abigail. His name is Randolph Carter. He smiles and mentions that the conversation will continue tomorrow. For now it is best for you to get some rest after your tiring journey. Tituba will be instructed to prepare some refreshments when you reach. The next day, a dark-skinned lady draws some water from a well. She is greeted by Abigail back at the Carter residence, who thanks her for her hard work. The water will be Abigail’s lunch. Tituba: Miss Abby……Please cheer up. What about the guests? Abigail: They are in the house. Uncle has left for the Pastor’s house. And I will surely be scolded later. Tituba: Onyaonya……that is most unfortunate. In the house, you check with Mashu on the status of the communication device. Mashu frowns as she describes her report. Sanson is worried, but says that Da Vinci’s inventions don’t always properly work. Nezha is busy stuffing herself with oatmeal. Robin Hood: Finish that oatmeal first……Nezha. Aren’t you, more of a Knowledge-type character? Showing off gluttony as a guest isn’t good you know? This village isn’t exactly that prosperous from what I see. First of all, oats and the like are fodder for horses. Nezha: ……hofu! Fuhahohahanha! Medea: ……even with the same ingredients, I can do a better job. There doesn’t seem to be any capacity for interest in cooking in this village. Sanson: Probably due to impact from the false incarnation. Even I can feel hunger. Well even if we don’t eat, that itself is suspicious. Mata Hari: Don’t be too strict on yourself. Being treated as a gathering of strange people, that way is much easier for us. As for myself, I’ve done a look around the village already. I’ve also lightly advertised the troupe, so everyone, please speak to the villagers. Mashu: You’ve already finished surveying the surrounding area? Since morning? Robin commends Mata Hari for her swift actions. You ask Mata Hari about the nature of this village. She assures you that it is as Abigail told you last night, Salem of 1692. There doesn’t seem to be any contradictions with the content of the villagers’ conversations. The villagers are also of the Puritan denomination, and most of them are fishermen, hunters, blacksmiths or fabric dyers, and clergymen by trade. They are colonial residents that wake up early to go to work. The wharf is aligned with storehouses, and ships headed to England or western Indian Archipelago are anchored at the port. Mashu: Eh? There’s some difference from actual history there. Genuine wharfs have yet to be built at this time…… Medea: The ships? There are sailors there? Mashu is taken aback by Medea’s sudden outburst of excitement. Medea corrects herself and mentions that it’s natural for a harbor to have those things. Robin thinks Medea resembled Lily earlier. Medea: D…don’t lump me together with that kind of pure, young girl. Mashu wonders if there were lapses from history based on the observation. Mata Hari further adds that she’s noticed other deviations from history. Apparently, even though the lifestyle is similar to that of the 17th-Century, the people living there don’t belong to the same group. There are many people that don’t match up to the list of residents. Robin concludes that this isn’t the Salem of the past, but is simultaneously behaving as if it were. He provides the geographical report. What’s most striking is that the landforms and houses appear superficial, and vastly differ from the historical documents from Chaldea. Sanson ponders if Salem is an elaborate, fake village, created using the frame of 17th-Century Salem. He also wonders if the same changes in history are similar as with the Seven Singularities. You proceed to ask about the original inhabitants of this Salem. Mata Hari: Yes, the problem lies there. The number of villagers in this Salem is about 1600~1700 people. Robin Hood: I couldn’t find any place that seemed to be imprisoning the vanished 50, 000 people. Mata Hari: 50, 000……humans…… Mashu wonders worriedly where the original residents could have disappeared to. But she addresses another key problem: The Witch Trials. If this place follows the history of Salem in 1692, it should be the same period as when the hangings began. Mata Hari: This is a peaceful village……though that’s only on the surface. Farmers are fighting for ownership of land, and there is a lot of tension in their verbal exchanges. Despite their strongly religious hearts, there’s an evident display of dissatisfaction. I can understand the feelings of those young girls, escaping to spread their wings just like last night. Robin adds that he checked on the food storehouses, and noticed that the residents are having trouble with their food stores. There might have been a continuous poor crop, and it feels as though the people had to economize on rations. Coincidentally, Carter’s house is one of the affluent households in the area. Other households didn’t appear to be capable of hosting guests. Medea: In the first place— Could the displayed image from the Near-Future Observation Lens ‘SHEBA’ have been a mistake? Mashu: I can’t deny that— Tituba enters the room, smiling. She greets your group, and asks if you’ve been discussing about your performance. Mashu: Ah……um, Tituba-san, am I correct? Tituba: Yes, my name is Tituba. I am the Carter household’s servant. Medea: (…………servant……? This woman……? ) Sanson: Please excuse me for being rude but, Tituba, are you…… Tituba: Are you interested in the origins of my birth? I was born on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean Sea. It’s not rare to find a black person employed as a servant in these parts. Presently I’m at the service of Mr. Carter but……before I was the maidservant of Miss Abby’s father. Mashu asks about Abigail’s parents. Tituba answers with a sullen look. Abigail’s parents were killed by the indigenous people, and ever since, Abigail has been in low spirits. Tituba sympathizes with Abigail’s situation, and expresses relief that Carter adopted Abigail. It seems that Abigail has managed to return to her cheerful self lately but, Tituba fears that the encounter with the beasts in the forest from last night must have scared Abigail terribly. Mashu: (Killed by the indigenous people……so this was what Geronimo-san was referring to when he mentioned about being exposed to needless danger if he accompanied us……) Robin Hood: ……If her parents were killed, normally she’d be harsh to outsiders but, this girl doesn’t appear to be so. She looks honest. Tituba: Yes, she’s a truly kind girl. She often converses with someone like me. Sanson apologizes for interrupting suddenly, and is about to ask Tituba about the white-haired girl from last night, but Tituba realizes she’s chatted too long and excuses herself from the room. Nezha thanks her for the meal. Medea: ……Master. A moment please. How, did you see that maidservant? You: How……a gentle looking black lady? Medea: Is that so. I couldn’t see her that way. Mata Hari asks if somethings the matter. But Medea frowns, and mentions that staying too long in this house is dangerous. Influence from a stronger power has already taken effect. Robin smiles and finds the house somewhat nostalgic because of the draught, sour odor of horse dung, the noisy bell chimes from the church, the rather crude meals, and the conversations of people in King’s English. Sanson is puzzled as to whether Robin likes or dislikes the environment here, but reminds him not to forget about the mission of finding the missing 50, 000 people. Robin Hood: And one more thing. A froggy chap who joined along as bonus. Sanson: ……what do you mean by that. Mata Hari: Again, the two of you—……? Mata Hari and Mashu notice shouting from the outside. Robin realizes its Abigail’s voice, and surmises that Carter has returned home. Outside, Carter is talking to Abigail. Carter: Move aside, Abigail. Abigail: Uncle, I should be receiving punishment. Not Tituba. You said so yourself right? Tituba: Miss Abby…… Carter: However the other girls, and their parents, all said the same thing. Tituba was the one who taught you that foreign ritual. Last night, sneaking out of the house was so that you could go and carry it out. We’ve made a promise to seal our lips so that it won’t spread as a rumor in the village but……Abigail. What were you doing in that dark forest? Abigail: …………About that…… You step out and ask Carter what’s going on. Carter: Mister Guda……This is more serious than what I thought was mischief. Unfortunately, now I won’t be able to let my niece watch your play. Abigail is upset over Carter’s decision. You defend Abigail by saying that last night was merely just childish mischief. Carter: However, the situation hasn’t been resolved. Although trouble was averted as your group was there……Tituba, who incited the children, will be punished severely. From now on, you are not to go near the children. Abigail: Something like punishment……please stop Uncle……! I was the one who begged Tituba to teach me. The cane, anything, I’ll accept it……So please…… Sanson looks on quietly, and Tituba assures Abigail that she’ll be fine. Mata Hari: Please excuse me but, Mr. Carter? Late night ventures are of course, problematic conduct for girls of such an age. You were definitely worried, having to search deep in the forest for Abby. But……assaults from the wild beasts on the cattle, and even on villagers, I haven’t heard of such in the recent years. Carter: ……that is the case but, regardless of beasts, the area by the surrounding forests are dangerous. Some call it cursed land. The village forsaken by God. Abigail: …………… Carter: —Abigail. Abigail runs off. Mashu calls after her but she has disappeared from the scene. Carter says its fine to ignore her, and resumes talking to Tituba, making her pledge to never mention anything about her homeland to the village girls. Tituba apologizes and does as she’s told. The two of them then go back into the house. Mashu asks you about what to do next. You: What do you think, Mashu? Mashu: I feel, honestly worried about Abigail-san……I understand that my duty should take priority but…… Prologue.

My initial impressions. Thought it would be a bomb knowing nothing about the film judging by the trailer and poster, only interested in the mythology of Ne Zha. And damn, it was entertaining, fast paced full of slapstick humor and action, although the first few minutes had some slight cringe you might expect from a Chinese animation, but that quickly goes away.
The visuals and 3d were spectacular. I'd say on the level of Dreamworks, somewhat near Pixar at times, although there were moments especially the dragons that were pretty bad, and 1 or 2 scenes that made my eyes spasm a bit from weird 3d movement. I first thought the initial character designs were like some weird Naruto-esk spinoff with the child NeZha looking a bit ugly, plus tropey action scenes. But it's one of those cases where watching it is much better than the lower quality trailers I came across, and none of the action was corny with emo characters trying too hard to act cool.
The subtitles can pass by VERY fast and/or get lost against the background, so get ready to read fast. I'm left with some questions on the origin story which deviates a little from what I read, but there's enough to stay true to the mythos. There are even some moving, touching scenes with NeZha and his parents. Can't wait for the sequel which multiple end credits scenes point to.

不愣命,就是勒(第二声)扎的命😂. And here I thought only Hollywood shows the whole movie in trailers. DEFINITELY watching this :D. This so cool man most interesting animation for me in this year👍.

This looks epic as f. I'm watching this. Damn, that movie was awesome. Can't wait to watch it again in theatres. I just watched this movie. It is really a great movie. very interesting and inspiring. if (your) fate isn't fair, fight it till the end. I was just looking for a nezha warframe guide.

画风有点重口味.

Fight your Fate, Belive in yourself - China now taking on Disney

这个真的好看. Is he incarnation of the wukong?😳looks fantastic. I made this video back in July. It covers 10 lesser known facts about Sun Wukong. Each fact is sourced in the video description. Here is the dialogue for the hearing impaired. Opening: Stone Monkey, Handsome Monkey King, Keeper of the Heavenly horses, Great Sage Equaling Heaven, Pilgrim, Victorious Fighting Buddha. Sun Wukong is known by many names. This much beloved character is a staple of modern pop culture, appearing in countless movies, television shows, video games, and other related media. His most famous adaptation is of course Son Goku from the Dragon Ball Franchise. But he is best known from his adventures in the great 16th-century Chinese classic Journey to the West. In this video we will explore ten facts that even superfans of the novel may not know about the history of the Monkey King. References for each fact are available in the description. Let’s get started. 10. He’s not Chinese Jiangsu province, China is home to Huaguoshan Park, a popular tourist attraction touted as the home of the Monkey King. However, the novel describes Flower Fruit Mountain as being located in a vast ocean “at the border of the small Aolai Country, which lies to the east of the East Purvavideha Continent. ” The cosmic geography of Indian Buddhism places this continent, along with the Western Godaniya continent, the Northern Uttarakuru continent, and the Southern Jambudvipa continent, around the four cardinal directions of Mt. Sumeru, a giant mountain that serves as the axis mundi of the cosmos. Each continent is separated by an ocean, making traveling between them very difficult. While said geography traditionally associates Southern Jambudvipa with India, or the known world to the ancient people of South Asia, the novel places China within the continent and associates India with Western Godaniya. This means Monkey’s home is located well to the east of China. 9. His surname references both monkeys and Daoist immortality The exact word Master Subhuti uses for Monkey’s appearance is husun, meaning “grandson of the barbarian”. This word references the nomadic tribes that constantly plagued ancient China’s northern border. The Chinese believed these people were less than human with animal-like qualities. The term Husun refers to the Rhesus macaque, an Old World monkey species native to Asia. The Chinese believed this monkey also had animal and human qualities. This is why the words for barbarian and grandson include the animal radical. Monkey’s resemblance to the macaque is highlighted throughout the novel. For example, the many demonic features used to describe our hero are shared with the primate. These include a furry, jowless face with fiery eyes, a broken or flat nose, a beak-like mouth with protruding fangs, and forked ears. After choosing Sun as Monkey’s surname, Master Subhuti removes the animal radical and provides a folk etymology for the character, breaking it down into its individual components and associating them with Daoist thought. Zi means boy and xi means baby, and that name exactly accords with the fundamental Doctrine of the Baby Boy. This doctrine refers to the Shengtai, or holy embryo or fetus, the realized state of immortality. Daoist internal alchemy views the human body as a living cauldron capable of smelting vital essences into an immortal elixir. This process involves manipulating semen, qi, and spirit within the body and combining them to produce the holy embryo. The achievement of eternal life is sometimes symbolized in alchemical treatises as a baby on the practitioner’s stomach. Hence the baby boy mentioned by Master Subhuti. 8. He’s the literary successor of a legendary emperor Monkey’s birth from stone mirrors legends associated with the birth of Yu the Great, a legendary emperor of the Xia Dynasty and a demigod famous for quelling the fabled world flood, as well as killing many flood demons in the process. Even his son Qi is said to have been born from a stone. One particular Han dynasty tale reads: When Yu went to appease the floods, he pierced through Huanyuan Mountain and transformed himself into a bear. Earlier Yu had said to his pregnant wife Tushan, ‘At the sound of the drum, please bring me food. ’ But during his efforts, Yu jumped on a rock and a piece fell, hitting the drum by mistake. Tushan brought the food as promised and saw the bear. Feeling embarrassed and distressed, she fled as far as the foot of Songgao Mountain where she was transformed into a stone. Yu said to her, ‘Return my son. ’ Facing north, the stone split open and gave birth to Qi. Furthermore, Sun Wukong comes to wield Yu’s cosmic ruler, the famous “As-you-wish” gold-banded cudgel. In chapter 3, the Dragon King reveals the magic staff “was the measure with which Yu the Great fixed the depths of rivers and oceans when he conquered the Flood. ” Therefore, the novel presents Monkey as a great hero literally cast from the same mold as Yu the Great. 7. He’s really short Modern media often depicts Sun Wukong as the size of a human man. A prime example is his portrayal in the popular online video game SMITE as a hulking warrior with huge muscles. However, the novel describes his base form as being very short and skinny. For example, one passage in chapter 20 reads: The old monster took a careful look and saw the diminutive figure of [Monkey]—less than four feet, in fact—and his sallow cheeks. He said with a laugh: “Too bad! Too bad! I thought you were some kind of invincible hero. But you are only a sickly ghost, with nothing more than your skeleton left! ” That’s right, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, the conqueror of the heavenly army, is the size of a child. This is why Sun Wukong is so short in Stephen Chow’s 2013 film Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons. 6. He predates Journey to the West by hundreds of years Stories about a “Monkey Pilgrim” go all the way back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). This predates the novel and even the name Sun Wukong by centuries. Such tales would have been told in storytelling stalls like this one from the famous 12th-century painting Along the River during the Qingming Festival. Records for the earliest repertoires do not exist, but thankfully pictorial evidence from two Buddhist cave grottos in Gansu Province, China survive. Eastern Thousand Buddha cave number two houses an 11th-century painting of Monkey and his master paying homage to the Bodhisattva Guanyin. Monkey is depicted with his famous golden fillet and what one might call a “derpy” expression. A 12th-century painting in Yulin cave number three depicts the two paying homage to the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Our hero is portrayed with a more monkey-like appearance but lacks his headband. 5. His golden headband is based on a real object In chapter 14, Monkey is tricked into wearing the fillet as punishment for killing bandits who accost his master. It painfully tightens around his skull whenever Xuanzang recites a spell. The self-control-inducing headband is based on one of eight ritual objects historically worn by esoteric Buddhist yogins. These items are best exemplified by a 13th-century stone relief carving of Monkey from Quanzhou in Fujian province, China. The esoteric source mentioning these items reads: The practitioner should wear divine earrings, a circlet around the head, upon each wrist a bracelet, a girdle around his waist, anklets around the ankles, arm ornaments around the upper arms and a garland of bones around the neck. His dress must be of tiger skin and his food the Five Nectars. The source goes onto mention the circlet symbolizes Akshobhya, one of the five esoteric Buddhas. This deity is known for his vow to attain Buddhahood through moralistic practices like right speech and action. Therefore, the ritual headband served as a physical reminder of self-restraint, just like the fillet does in the novel. 4. He originally fought with two staves Monkey appears in a 13th-century precursor to Journey to the West called Master of the Law, Tripitaka of the Great Tang, Procures the Scriptures. In this brief 17 chapter novelette, the supreme deva Vaisravana gives him a magic Khakkhara, or ringed monk’s staff like the one often depicted with the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha. He uses this staff in battle against a white tiger demon and transforms the weapon into a titanic yaksa wielding a club. Later, Monkey transforms the staff into an iron dragon to battle a group of nine-headed dragons, and after their defeat, he uses an iron staff borrowed from heaven to beat them as punishment. Storytellers would later combine these two staves to create Monkey’s signature weapon. The golden rings from the monk’s staff were attacked to the ends of the iron staff, creating a cudgel with the ability to grow or shrink according to the user’s wishes. 3. He has siblings and a wife Monkey appears in Journey to the West, a 15th-century zaju play that predates the similarly named Ming novel by nearly 200 years. In his opening dialogue to act 9 Monkey describes being one of several siblings. We are five brothers and sisters: my elder sister is the Venerable Mother of Mount Li, my second sister is the Water Spirit Sage; my older brother is the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, I myself am the Great Sage Reaching Heaven, and my younger brother is Shuashua Sanlang. Yes, you heard that right. The play calls Monkey the Great Sage Reaching Heaven, while an older brother is known as the Great Sage Equaling Heaven. One scholar suggests the older brother is the result of confusing similar titles given to Monkey during the long history of his story cycle. However, the sisters each have their own history. The Venerable Mother of Mount Li was historically worshiped as a deity from at least the Song Dynasty (960-1279), and myths often associate her with the creation/flood-conquering goddess Nuwa. The Water Spirit Sage, more commonly known as Wuzhiqi, is a monkey-like flood demon appearing in stories as far back as the Tang dynasty (618-907). So both sisters are associated with flooding. Monkey’s wife, the Princess of the Golden Caldron Country, is introduced in act 9 and sings a song revealing how the immortal had kidnapped her and forced her to be his bride. She is eventually rescued by Devaraja Li Jing and his son Prince Nezha, who both appear in the subsequent Ming novel. Monkey’s affinity for women does not end there. For example, in act 19, he tries to seduce Princess Iron Fan to gain access to her magic palm leaf fan. Upon meeting her, Monkey recites a poem chocked full of sexual innuendo: The disciple’s not too shallow, The woman’s not too and I, let’s each put forth an item, And make a little demon. 2. He’s worshiped as a god Fujian province, China has a long history of worshiping monkeys. For example, one source from the 12th-century mentions a Buddhist monk pacifying the vengeful spirit of a female “Monkey King” worshipped by the local people as the “Spirit protecting hills and woods”. Scholars are reluctant to tie Sun Wukong’s worship to this historical monkey cult, but it shows his faith evolved in the same cultural environment. The earliest evidence for Monkey’s worship comes from the early Qing Dynasty. One report from the 17th-century, for example, describes Monkey appearing in the clouds and driving back invading Japanese pirates from the Fujian coast during the preceding 16th-century. Scholars suggest the publishing of Journey to the West in 1592 played a large part in the development of his cult and the spread of his mythos. Chinese emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties never officially recognized the Great Sage or built temples in his honor due to the monkey’s rebellious nature. However, due to the popularity of the novel, his cult spread from Fujian to other areas of Southern China, Taiwan, and Singapore. Modern GIS mapping shows temples dedicated to him on the Putian Plains of the Fujian coast cluster in the northern highlands where poorer, less educated communities reside. It’s important to remember that Monkey is worshiped under his rebellious title of the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, instead of his Buddhist name Wukong. Therefore, Monkey may have historically appealed to poorer communities because he had the power to push back against an unfair government, perhaps one that favored the rich over the poor. Therefore, this class of people may have been responsible for the spread of his cult beyond China. The Wanfu Temple of Tainan, Taiwan is just one example of the many temples dedicated to Monkey throughout Asia. Here he is worshipped as a powerful exorcist and healer. Monkey’s cult recognizes a pantheon of Great Sages, from a holy trinity and administrative managers down to lowly soldier monkeys. Adherents visit every day to pay their respects and to pray for blessings. Here we see a time lapse of Temple members celebrating the Great Sage’s birthday. They leave him offerings of fruit and candy and burn incense and paper money as a way of repaying Monkey’s generosity. Spirit Mediumship plays a large role in the temple’s religious life, giving worshipers direct access to the divine. Twice a week Wanfu’s spirit medium calls down the Great Sage from heaven to hold audience with believers seeking blessings. Here we see the medium-turned-Great Sage using incense to draw magical fu talismans on a baby’s body, starting from the front and then mirroring the design on the back. He then writes out a series of paper talismans using the same incense. One is folded and put inside of a red pouch to be worn as a good luck charm. The second is packaged to be later burnt and the ashes combined with an included tea leaf and water to be given to the baby as a magical brew. Finally, the third is lit and waved over the baby’s head and around their body. Even a particular ginger-bearded researcher took part in the ritual. Not everyone can say they’ve been blessed by the Monkey King. 1. There was a real monk named Wukong Scholars suggest Monkey may have been named after a real Buddhist monk originally called Che Fengchao. He was born in 731, nearly 90 years after the historical monk Xuanzang returned to China from India. He grew up to become a diplomat for the Tang court and was chosen to be part of a royal mission to Kashmir in 751. An illness kept him from returning to China in 753 and so he was left in the care of a noted Buddhist monk, eventually being ordained as a monk himself with the religious name Fajie, or “Dharma Realm”. He lived in India for decades before returning to China in 790. There, he presented Tang Emperor Dezong with various translated Sutras and a Buddha tooth relic. The emperor was so pleased that he renamed the monk Wukong, or “Awakened to Emptiness”. Closing: This ends our look at 10 facts about Sun Wukong. I hope this video was enlightening. I never write any review, but this is an exception, as I think this movie deserves better attention. If it is made by Pixar or Disney, I believe it would even stand a chance of being nominated for the Academy Awards, as many animated movies that have won aren't not as good as this (of course there are other well-deserved winners from those studios. I have watched many animated movies, and my favorites are from Ghibli (Japan) and Ne Zha to me is on par with other movies like Spirited Away, Kaguya Hime, Totoro etc. The story is refreshing and very creative, the characters are adorable, and the art is excellent.
Anyway, I don't want to add any spoiler, I just want to say go see the movie for yourself, and judge it before coming to any conclusion from any negative review. This movie is truly a gem. The Chinese animation industry should be proud of it.

谁能告诉英国是否上映? 好想看哦. Whoaaa. The Chinese voice acting us epic! I'm very impressed. Kudos to all the animators as well. Surprisingly, the film has grossed 134 million at the Chinese mainland box office, more than the lion king.

Nezha is also my Childhood, even we're Vietnamese. When he committed suicide, his mother buried him,and later his body recreated from lotus root, this made my tear a lot. I dont know if the movie will show in Vietnam. Very expectation. I feel the movie is about China itself. The west is so scared of China, it is so different and so powerful, and grow very quickly and is moving up rapidly the industrial chain and might hurt wests core interest. As a result, they do everything to demonize China. In the end, only China can decide its own fate.

Info: Based on the famous children’s song, “Nellie the Elephant”, the series revolves around a pink elephant named Nellie who is returning to her home in Mandalay after escaping from the circus. Throughout the series, she meets new characters and sometimes returns to the same places in her quest to return home, though curiously, all of her travels are within the United Kingdom. Another recurring character is a Dick Dastardly-like Ringmaster keen to recapture Nellie at all costs and return her to the circus, but is continuously foiled by Nellie and her friends. Genres: Animation Children's television series Family.

“去你个鸟命!”😂. It's should be launched in India if possible has very nice effect and is crowd for this type of nice movie in India. Long live the chinese animation. The animation looks gorgeous. So beautiful. I hope the story does justice to it.
